I enjoy facebook. Sometimes I forget that it’s not just a place for me and my sisters to try and crack each other up. Real people look at it and share what’s going on in their lives. I enjoy seeing how my friends’ kids are doing and where they’re going on vacation or what they’re up to at work. It’s fun.
Now facebook has this memory feature. Posts from the same day in years past pop up, and you can see how much things have changed or stayed the same in your life. And this freaks me out! I have no concept of time or age. This visual confirmation of exactly what you said on an exact date is crazy.
This pic of Gigi popped up today. Long hair. Freckles. I think this may have been the IB freshmen orientation. I had no idea what to expect. She was starting in a school 15 miles away, knowing just a handful of people from middle school, and with 2 AP classes on her schedule. I had no idea how we were going to make it work with my full-time job and her after school activities that Campbell couldn’t provide transportation for.
We were a little early for the orientation (a miracle), and somehow we stumbled on this bakery. It’s Bernhard’s an authentic German bakery in Smyrna. (We will discover over the years that Smyrna has a lot more authentic ethnic food than East Cobb.) We each grabbed a pastry and ate them in the car. I can’t remember what we talked about, but I remember thinking, “She’s going to be just fine. She’s going to land on here feet.” I snapped the pic and we drove off. The latest step in pushing this big rock up a hill.
